It combines 3 cooking methods, to create a fabulous tasting appetizer that will literally wow anyone who tries it!

The steps are not that complex, but you will need to follow them exactly in order.  If you don’t, then your wings will  not have that crispy, crunchy crust that makes them so great!  They will still taste great, but they won’t be crispy.

How To Make This Honey BBQ Wings Recipe

It’s not that difficult to make this recipe, but you will need to prepare your ingredients before you start the actual cooking.

You will need 3 bowls, for 3 separate types of mixtures.  You will need an awesome grill, especially if you decide to cook this at your next outdoor BBQ event.  And you will need a cast iron skillet.  Yeah, down here in the south, a grill and cast iron skillet are equipments that one MUST have for their cooking.

The Sauce Must Be Chilled Well For Maximum Flavor

The BBQ sauce and honey mix should always be refrigerated for at least an hour.  Overnight is best!  This allows the great zing of the sauce, and the sweet of the honey, to mingle together for a flavor that is out of this world!

When you dip the wings in this mixture, you will need to be very careful not to knock off any of the crust.

Some people prefer to gently brush the honey on the wings, using a basting brush or BBQ mop.

Frying Up This Fabulous Honey BBQ Wings Recipe

When you start frying this recipe, you will not want to fry until the crust is very brown.  This can result in overcooking the wing, because you’ll be baking and grilling it as well.

You want a crust that is done, and a golden brown, but that’s as brown as you will want to get it.

When frying the wings, be extra careful not to break the crust.  It is very important that you don’t!  Your wings will still taste yummy, but the crispy crunch is something that you will certainly want to keep intact!

Baking Up A Delicious Snack!

Once your wings have been fried, you will want to cover them in the sauce and bake them as explained below.

When baking them, you need to be sure to spray your baking pan with some cooking spray.  This will help prevent them from sticking to the pan!

It Is Time To Grill!

After you have baked the wings, you will then want to transfer them to a grill.  Your grill should be prepared, hot and ready for grilling.

The baking took some of the crispness from the wings, due to the sauce.  Grilling them will create a charred crispy crunch that grilling is so famous for!

By now, your wings should be completely done.  So you will want to grill them just long enough to get that crunch, and charred flavor that comes from a grill.

This honey BBQ wings recipe makes wings that are best enjoyed while hot, so serve them up immediately!  If they do get cold, microwaving them will soften the crust.  And although they will still be tasty, the whole reason for thrice cooking is to have that crispy crunch!

I hope you enjoyed the recipe, when you try it, let me know how it turned out for you!  Leave a comment below, I would LOVE to hear from you!

Instructions

  • Mix the honey and bbq sauce in a bowl. Cover and place in fridge until ready to use.
  • Mix the milk and egg in a separate bowl and set aside.
  • Mix the flour, hot sauce, salt, peppers, garlic and onion powder in another separate bowl.
  • Dip a wing into the milk and egg mixture, then coat it with the flour mixture. Dip it into the milk and egg mixture again, and coat another layer of flour over that.
  • Heat the grease in a cast iron skillet, and cook the chicken wings until they are a light golden brown. It does not matter if they are done completely in the middle, you just want to fry them until they have a lovely brown colored crispy crust.
  • Once the wings are done, dip them in the BBQ honey sauce and place them on the baking dish.
  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees, and bake the wings for 20 to 30 minutes until the sauce is bubbly with a slight brownish tint.
  • Remove the wings from the oven and quickly sear each side on your grill to give it a nice grilled smoky flavor, and so it will create a nice, tasty, crispy charred crust.
