💡 Grandmaw's Tips
Pinch off every single flower the first year — I know it hurts, but you'll get three times the berries the second year for your patience.
Mulch with straw (that's where the name comes from, honey) to keep fruit off the soil and prevent rot.
Runners are free plants. Pin them into little pots while they're still attached and snip them free once they root.
Bird netting is worth every penny. One morning without it and you'll be sharing your whole harvest with the jays.
Water at the base, never overhead. Wet leaves invite fungus faster than anything.
Renovate June-bearing beds after harvest — mow the tops, thin to 6-inch spacing, and add compost. They'll come back stronger.
If you only have a porch, a strawberry tower or hanging basket works beautifully. Six plants can give you berries all summer.

💡 If you've never made jam, start here. Mash berries, add sugar and lemon juice, cook 20 minutes. No special equipment needed.

Best for: Trail mix, cereal topper, oatmeal, snacking
💡 Slice ¼ inch thick and dry at 135°F for 8-12 hours. They'll be chewy like candy. Kids will eat a whole jar if you let them.
🍷 Vinegar Infusion

Best for: Salad dressings, shrubs, marinades
💡 Pack a jar with berries and hulls, cover with white wine vinegar, and wait 2 weeks. Strain and you've got strawberry vinegar that'll make any salad special.
